Five Songs: Written by Canadians about the United States

When Canadians write their larger, noisier downstairs neighbor, it's often as from the point of view of an aggrieved lover or concerned friend. Usually they're ignored, except for Neil Young who got numerous death threats over his songs "Alabama" and "Southern Man" but maybe that's because he was living in California when he wrote and recorded them.

    1. Distant Early Warning (Rush, "Grace Under Pressure")
    2. Big Yellow Taxi (Joni Mitchell, "Ladies of the Canyon")
    3. Southern Man (Neil Young, "After the Gold Rush")
    4. Beneath, Between and Behind (Rush, "Fly By Night")
    5. American Woman (The Guess Who, "American Woman')
