Today I'm going to channel my inner @daisysf and vent a little bit about FourSquare. I can (sort of) understand the utility of "checking in" from restaurants, bars and other public places, as a way of alerting others that you are in a certain place and might be psyched to hang out. Plus, on FourSquare you can give me people useful information ("tips") and collect badges (which are of no real use, but kind of fun.) However, I can't really see any valid use case for checking in from one's home (apparently people have taken to giving their domiciles cute names in hopes of convincing FourSquare that they are actual establishments) or their place of employment.
Do people actually expect that, once they check in at their home/office, that their friends will randomly stop by? Would that be welcome? Or is it just a way of gaming the system, racking up meaningless "Mayorships" for which there will be little or no competition?

I am totally NOT gaming the system. I really expect my friends to stop by my office. Honest. I swear.
