Starting to look like a real good year for live music. I have the following concerts on my radar, some definitely planned, others merely hypothetical.
2/19 JGB with Melvin Seals & Stu Allen at the Great American Music Hall -- Stu Allen is slated to join Dark Star Orchestra, and, along with John Kadlecik, one of the finest Jerry-style guitarists around today
3/8 FURTHUR in Portland -- good excuse for me to finally get to Portland, a city that I've driven around many times, but never actually visited
3/12 FURTHUR & Friends celebrating Phil Lesh's 70th birthday -- rumored to be joining the core Furthur group will be Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, effective making this a reunion of The Dead, only substituting John Kadlecik for Warren Haynes
4/13 Spoon and Deerhunter at the Fox
4/16 Coachella festival day one with Jay-Z, Them Crooked Vultures, Vampire Weekend, The Specials and Echo & the Bunnyment -- I'm not sure I can take the entire three-day festival, but seriously considering hitting up just the first day, since it contains most of the acts I'm interested in seeing
4/20 Vampire Weekend at the Fox -- Vampire Weekend seem like the perfect band with which to celebrate the stoner's national holiday
4/22,23,24 Yo La Tengo at the Fillmore--a band I will go see every time they come around -- however, it will need to balanced along with
4/23,24 Dark Star Orchestra at the with -- featuring the aforementioned Stu Allen stepping into the role of Jerry Garcia
EDIT: 5/1 Broken Social Scene at the Fillmore -- three days before the release of their first full band album since 2005
5/8 Drive-By Truckers at the Fillmore, touring in support of "The Big To-Do"
EDIT: 5/19 Frightened Rabbit @ the Fillmore
5/27 The National at the Fox
6/16 Bloomsday at the Oakland Coliseum with U2
6/19 Toronto Island Concert curated by Broken Social Scene, featuring them, Band of Horses and Pavement
EDIT: 6/25 Pavement at the Greek Theatre, Berkeley -- thanks to @meanjoegreen for reminding me about this one
7/2,3.4 Naventa Festival, with Flaming Lips and (rumored) FURTHUR
Have I forgotten anything? Any shows I should be checking out? Let me know in the comments.
