One way to describe this would be to say that Bob is colorblind, but in his ears. He has an uncanny ear for melody, obviously, but cannot or will not hear things that strike even casual listeners but especially musicians as bloody obvious. I think this is one of the keys to his songwriting genius. I’m just not entirely sure in what way.
